Our bodies have an amazing, innate ability to survive overwhelming circumstances. In fact, we are hard-wired for survival from birth. Our physical response to trauma and stress is instinctual; it just happens. Sometimes, that survival mechanism is so powerful that it stays turned "on" even after the threat or stress has passed. Other times, the stress is ongoing or chronic. This creates imbalance, or separation, between our mind, body and spirit. Residue of the trauma negatively affects thoughts, emotions, hormones, sleep patterns, immunity and relationships.
Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to mitigate these imbalances by activating the mechanisms that calm, soothe and re-integrate our mind and body, when offered through a trauma informed lens.
This trauma informed offering includes yoga based movement, breathing and somatic exercises to support nervous system regulation. Students are encouraged to engage with curiosity vs. judgment, and to make choices around what feels useful for them moment to moment, throughout the class.
Accessible to all levels, no yoga experience needed- all are welcome.
